When you visit a bakery,
you’ll usually notice an assortment of bread and pastries. Even though there
are many items that are meant to be enjoyed in their original state, there are
a few baked goods that can be transformed into a complete meal, a side dish, or
a dessert. Here are a few ideas to consider if you plan to get a large piece of
French bread instead of simply adding butter to it and toasting it in the oven.
Stuffed Bread
If you pick up a french baguette loaf at your local bakery, there are a few
different ways that you can create a stuffed meal that your family will likely
enjoy. One option is to use feta cheese and spinach or another green vegetable
if you’re trying to create a healthy meal. A fun recipe to try would be to use
ingredients that you would put on a pizza. These include sauce, cheese,
pepperoni, sausage, and a variety of other items that give you the taste of a
pizza without a lot of the mess involved. Once the loaf is stuffed, you’re
going to bake it until the bread is golden brown and the ingredients inside are cooked.
French Toast
There are a few ways that you can make French toast using a baguette loaf. One
would be to cut slices and dip them in your egg mixture when you want to make
the meal. Another option is to cut slices of bread to put in a baking dish. You
can layer the bread with fresh fruit and your egg mixture, baking the dish
right away or leaving it in the refrigerator overnight to chill before baking
it the next morning. Top the toast with powdered sugar, jelly that is the same
flavor as the fruit that you used, or syrup.
Soup
There’s nothing heartier and comforting than a hot bowl of soup and a sandwich.
After making your soup, you can use small pieces of your baguette as croutons
or simply add a thin slice or two on the top of your soup. You can also make a
grilled cheese sandwich with slices of the bread and a few different types of
cheese. Soups that work well with this idea include tomato, vegetable, and any
kind of chowder.
Breakfast Loaf
Sometimes, you might want to prepare a delicious breakfast for your family,
especially if it’s a holiday or you’re eating together on the weekend. You’re
going to cook slices of bacon and chop them into small bits. Next, you need to
cook a few eggs inside your baguette loaf. Avoid leaving the loaf in the oven
for too long so that your eggs will have a runny consistency. This will make it
a little easier to enjoy the bread as well as it will add more flavor. Consider
sprinkling the bread with shredded cheese as well. Top the bread with the bacon
once it comes out of the oven for a filling breakfast that you can enjoy with a
side of fresh fruit, coffee, or juice.
